This Week on the Farmstead – May 22

This week on the farmstead, I’ll share with you some photos of the wonderfully eventful Saturday last weekend. We celebrated a belated Mother’s Day with Todd’s Mom and Grandma, and some of our closest family attended, which was really nice.

Herbal Courses at Herbal Academy of New England
Before I get to that, though, I’ll share a little of what has been going on here. For starters, I finished both my Introductory and Intermediate Herbal Courses with Herbal Academy of New England! I am SO excited to have finished–now maybe I’ll be a little more than a dabbler in herbs. *grin*

Growing Green Beans in Manure Experiment - Stone Family Farmstead
Also, my green bean plants that I planted in straight manure are coming up! I realize that they will probably be gorgeous plants with gorgeous foliage, but no flowers or fruit (due to crazy amounts of nitrogen in the manure), but I’m happy anyway. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen!

Herb Harvest - Stone Family Farmstead
We are getting our first harvests of the year–mostly herbs, but we’ve gotten three zucchinis from the very plant that was originally showing signs of blossom end rot. The zucchini I have harvested this past week is fantastic, with no rot issues. And my herbs look equally as fantastic as my zucchinis sound, don’t you think?

And last but not least, the best part of the week for all of us was when we had our family over for fellowship and Italian food. What a great way to start our week. Enjoy the photos!

Honestly? I'm the author of this blog...sometimes. My family and I live in Sunny Southern California on a one acre hobby farm where we are working diligently to one day produce our dairy, eggs, and produce. That takes A LOT of work, so if you don't hear from me as soon as you'd like, give me a shout out in the comments and I'll chat back as soon as I can between the garden, goat kids, chickens, husband, human kids, and playing with my grandboy, Kieran. And in the mean time, if you'd like to see more frequently what goes on at our farm, please feel free to join my Facebook group (see the right column) where I am more active. I'd love to get to know you! 🙂
